About Monthly Sudoku
The Monthly Sudoku is our hardest scheduled puzzle - one very hard 9x9 board that refreshes each month and is the same for every player.
Set at Extreme difficulty, it is a real showpiece challenge. Take your time; you have all month to conquer it.
How to play Monthly Sudoku
- Fill every empty cell with a digit so that each row contains the digits 1-9 with no repeats.
- Every column must also contain the digits 1-9 exactly once.
- Each of the nine 3x3 boxes must contain the digits 1-9 exactly once.
- Use the number pad or your keyboard to place a digit, and the Erase button to clear a mistake.
- The puzzle is solved when the whole grid is filled correctly.

- Build complete candidate grids before committing to moves.
- Advanced techniques like X-Wings will likely be needed.
- There is no rush - the puzzle stays all month.
Strategies and techniques for Monthly Sudoku
Naked pairs and triples
If two cells in a unit share the exact same two candidates, those two digits belong to those cells and can be erased from every other cell in the unit. The same idea extends to triples.
Hidden pairs
If two digits can only appear in the same two cells of a unit, you can delete all other candidates from those two cells, unlocking further eliminations.
X-Wing
When a digit is restricted to the same two columns across two rows (forming a rectangle), it can be eliminated from those columns in every other row. Rotate the idea for column-based X-Wings.
